A Whole Weekend Off

I am OFF today! OFF as in, no kids at home from sun up til sun down. Oh yeah, and I'm off all day tomorrow and most of Sunday too. WHAT in the world??!!!! you ask. I know, you're excited for me.

My in-laws and husband are taking a family trip down to Callaway Gardens for the weekend, which means the kids were packed up and shipped out yesterday afternoon and I am free -blissfully, crazily and somewhat strangely- free.

Sleeping in was supposed to be the first thing I achieved on my kid-free agenda, but old habits die hard and it turns out I actually enjoy being up early so here I am on coffee cup #2 at 7:30, blogging away. There's a marked difference in rolling out of bed at 6:30 because you're excited to start the day and rolling out of bed at 6:30 terrified that you won't get a full cup of coffee and a few precious moments of quiet time with the Lord before tiny toes come pattering down the hallway. I'm absolutely marinating in the peace.

Turns out you can take the kids out of the home and you'll still find a plastic dinosaur
stalking you at the breakfast table.

On the agenda today: my beloved Dance Battle Build class, lunch with a friend, a prenatal massage (woot woot!), a visit to this homeschool store I've heard great things about, a little bit of sewing, a little bit of deep cleaning around the house (I guess you can take the kids out of the home and you'll still find the mom hanging around too) and probably watching a girlie movie in blissful solitude to round out the evening.

Tomorrow: quality time with my sister in the AM, and then some shopping. (SO stereotypical, right??) But truly, I have a return I need to make to Nordstrom, so I have to visit the mall anyway. I will exert all my willpower to leave that lovely store with more money in my checking account than I entered with. Also on the shopping agenda - new dishes.

This is what is left of the dishes we registered for and received for our wedding (not the cute colorful bowls, the brown plates and bowls). I guess lasting almost a decade isn't too shabby, but I'm still annoyed at the way so many of them chipped over the years. Have I mentioned 90% of everything we registered for back in the day was brown?? I had no sense of my style, was completely risk-averse and brown was the only color B Daddy and I agreed on.

I am in the market for crisp, white plates and pasta bowls. Sturdy enough for everyday use and quality enough to be used for at least a decade to come. Any brand recommendations? I think I'll add a few more of the Anthropolgie-esque (they are from HomeGoods) colorful bowls into the mix too - because they are awesome.

After the shopping I am not really sure what I'm going to do, I have a feeling my extroversion will start to become problematic around hour 8 of not hanging out with other humans, so if anyone wants to come over, give me a call.

Sunday morning I plan to watch church online (it's supposed to be a can't miss service - isn't it always?) and then meet up with a really amazing homeschool mom friend I met through the Y. She is willing to spill her guts about her homeschool experience and help answer my many questions. People are the best.

What are your weekend plans? Mom-friends, have you ever had a full weekend alone?? Was it amazing or did you get bored??

  1. i've been kid-free since LAST friday!!! it's been glorious. it's the longest we've been separated. i thought i'd be depressed but honestly, it's been the best to get an extra hour of sleep in the morning, not be forced to cook for someone, etc! soak it up!

  2. I love my Corelle dishes! They never chip and are super thin to stack in cabinets. You can get plain white or they make some super cute designs.

  3. I am so envious! I hope you had an amazing weekend of relaxation and doing whatever you want. That is something I have yet to experience. We've been on ONE trip without Ellie (I was 7 months pregnant with Charlotte) for a long weekend, but that's the extent of it.

As for dishes, I'd love to see what you ended up with. It's funny, our dishes are brown right now. :o) We've got the Pfaltzgraff Briar dishes...which at least have some leaves on them to dress them up a bit. They're our second set since we've been married; we'll see how long they last!
